New
Family Rules in Ontario
NOTE: Ontario now has new rules for family law matters. They took effect
on September 15th, in some places and will be in effect as at November 15th,
1999, in ohter places. These rules will govern family law matters in all Superior
Court of Justice Family Law locations and in all locations of the Ontario Court
of Justice, the former Ontario Court (Provincial Division).
For information check out the New Family Law Rules
You may access the Rules and the Forms from the Guide
to the Ontario Courts web site

LEGISLATION
The legislation collected below has been gathered from a variety
of sources on the Internet. Not every province has its laws available in electronic
format and it would be appreciated it if anyone would let me know where I
can get access to those not already listed below.
The
Access
to Justice Network (ACJNet) is a wonderfully full site with an enormous
array of useful information. I strongly recomend that you take some time to
visit the ACJNet site to enjoy their work. Amongst their offerings is what
I think is the most complete single collection of Canadian
legislative
listings on the Internet. Their listing is as comprehensive as they
can make it but it only has what the governments have put up and is not always
right up to date.
As a result, some of the legislation listed below comes from
other sources than ACJNet. I have made a note whenever the site referred to
isn't ACJNet.

You have to do a bit of work to get at the family law legislation Nova Scotia has on the Internet.
- First you go to the Legislation
section of the Nova Scotia government's Internet site.
- Then scroll down until you reach "Statutes of Nova Scotia (full text)".
- Clicking on that takes you to "Nova Scotia Statutes". Scroll down until you reach "Statutes available on this site".
- Click on that and you arrive at "Nova Scotia Statutes on the Internet". Scroll down and you reach an alphabetical listing.
- This takes you to an index of legislation with those statutes available on the Internet marked in colour. Click on them and you'll see the statute.
Relevant statutes available to read in full are:
- Adoption Information Act
- Age of Majority Act
- Change of Name Act
- Matrimonial Property Act
